The crowd was great and totally into the show singing all the songs, great atmosphere after a big storm made UFO and Stratovarius cancell their set(dammit),though Stratovarius have been postponed tomorrow(second day of the festival with Alice Cooper,Wasp,Testament and others)..
However, much more importantly the Priest are back and in a damn big way!
Rob is still the metal god if some of you had some doubts about it, but obviously you can't compare this Halford to the Rob that screamed for the most part of the late seventies and early 80's shows, the time has passed but Rob is phenomenal using his actual voice in the best way,the setlist helps him putting the hardest songs to sing in moments of the show where he's not already used the voice too much so he tries to avoid every kind of risk like to sing a Victim of Changes and a Painkiller in the end of the show for example.. I'll review every song but before I'd like to say that I loved Rob more than the other members because even doing simple(for him)things like his moves and his way to sing(especially the slow songs with clean voice and without the trademark screams)he is able to touch me more than the other guys, I can't imagine those songs sung by others and that's the main reason why with Tim didn't work even if he's an awesome singer.
On the band I'd say KK has been very solid, maybe the best of the band,Ian is the least considered usually cuase the bass guitar in Priest's music has always been in the background,Tipton has had a good night but I saw few very little mistakes from him, I'd say I saw-heard better nights from him but a not big fan could tell you he didn't miss a note cause they were really little mistakes.. Scott as usual is a machine but the selection of the songs was so so to show his abilities and for good part of the night it seemed to hear Scott Columbus of Manowar, which is the least dynamic drummer in metal in the sense of too simplistic because it doesn't take a genius to play songs like United lifting the stick at every
drumbeat..
Songs:
Hellion(prerecorded)
Electric eye: good version, nothing not already heard in the past but always a pleasure, crazy crowd.Rob is good(not incredible but certainly good)
Metal gods:really good version, ya know the song,no need to say more..
heading out to the highway:another good version,it surprises me that is sung by so many people,Rob confirms he's on,his screams are never too over the top but when he does them you hear why he's been called the metal god
Ripper:great version, the voice of Halford here fits perfectly, and Rob's moves are very nice here, that songs is so funny live
Touch of evil:a slow and atmospherical but powerful at the smae time version,Rob uses well the voice but doesn't scream like on the studio version, really enjoyable, very good rhythm section here, the band has been solid through the whole set, maybe just in some breaks before or after the solos and in a couple of solos and eds of songs Tipton wasn't so perfect,in some songs I heard very little mistakes even from others but very little stuff.. I have even forgotten in which songs apart form a couple of them..
The Sentinel:very solid version, Rob was cool, another enjoyable song.
Turbo lover:I had never heard Turbo lover by Halford and this version was fantastic, by far best song of the night in this first part of the show, great feeling of fun and joy among the members and the fans in the crowd chanting all the track, plus the way of Rob to perform the song is unique, his moves here are wow... this was for the priestess..
Victim of changes:here we go baby.. 6 songs and hadn't yet heard a very hard song to sing.. has Rob passed the test?Well the beginning has been acceptable but not phenomenal but the crowd had the confirmation that Rob is truly back(to deliver the goods)in the end where Rob scremed Victim of changes in a great way.. after the first verses good-so so Rob had to show something and he did it I watched a friend of mine that waited for 15 years to see Rob with the band and he smiled, damn good sign..
Diamonds and rust:beautiful song and great version, I can't understand people complaining why they play this version, the Rob's voice here is magic, believe me, if you can accept a metal god that doesn't scream all the time Rob is still phenomenal and he's at his best in this kind of songs, who heard Prisoner of your eyes in the live version(not overdubbed like the live albums usually are)knows what I'm talking about..
Breaking the law:ok version,Rob sings verses and some choruses but I bet you already knew that the crowd plays a big role here.. and it's been a fun, especially for the fans that saw Priest live the first time.
beyond the realms of death:great version apart from some little sound come out of Tipton's guitar after the solo, let's sya he didn't close it at best(if I recall correctly the song),Rob's been great apart from the final scream Beyond the realms of death.. not as good as the same kind in Victim of changes.. but oh well it can happen..
green manalishi:alwasy a fun live, but that's one of those songs I'd like to see replaced by stuff like The Rage or Blood red skies,or Starbreaker,Love bites..
Painkiller:the Halford version in Italy 2 years ago had better vocals for sure but it was the first songs of the night, this time Rob wasn't so fresh, an enjoyable version with a better guitar rendition courtesy of KK-Tipton.

For all the songs in the encore I'd say the band did them in the classic way, nothing strange to say, classic chants in Another thing coming,it's been smart to keep the easier songs to sing in the end of the show, imo if Painkiller was among the first songs it would have been definitely better vocally talking.
My last thought is about the setlist,I have to say the Halford setlist of two years ago, Victim of changes and Beyond(and Turbo Lover and Ripper)was much better than this with songs like F. Burning,Exciter,Sinner,Screami
ng for Vengeance(played in Sweden if I recall correctly)so I can't wait for the new tour for the new album,Priest said they'll come back next year and hopefully with a totally new set.
I can't wait for the recordings from Sweden, especially if we'll have the chance to hear Beyond,Victim,Ripper, turbo lover and Touch of evil, the other songs I already have in many versions...
